Aging in man causes many disorders and disabilities. They may be due to a variety of reasons that range from inability of cells to work to immune failure. As a result of these, during age, many get several disorders. One such disorder, a person gets is called spider veins. This may not just be acquired on aging. But aged persons are more prone towards it. The spider veins are also called as telangiectasias in medical terms. The spider veins, as the name itself gives an idea, are the veins that protrude out and its impression can be seen in the skin and which look like the spider’s web. Hence it got the name.

The spider veins can be caused due to a variety of causes that include, congenital and acquired. The congenital causes would be due to several syndromes like, Marfucci’s Syndrome and Sturge-Weber syndrome. There are also some other causes like hereditary hemorrhage etc. The acquired causes are mainly due to venous hypertension. Venous hypertension happens when the blood pressure in the veins exceeds a certain limit. This is vastly seen in elderly people of age 50 to 60.

There are wide varieties of reasons that may cause venous hypertension and one should know the risk factors and keep away from them. There are several other acquired causes but not so intense like this venous hypertension. The treatments available for this include simple medications, laser treatment and an advanced technique called as sclerotherapy. Though this spider veins is not a major health problem, one must keep away from it in order to have a risk free life. So one must follow the precautions!
